Day 4 starts out on the Axmouth to Lyme Regis Undercliff Nature Reserve. A major highlight of the Jurassic coast, the untamed Nature Reserve is home to orchids, ferns and fungi. It is also well worth a small detour to Lyme Regis’ Fossil Beach. There, the Ammonite Pavement astounds with an abundance of fossils littering its glistening shores. There are more ice cream opportunities in Lyme Regis before passing through charming Charmouth, then on to the Golden Cap. The longest climb of the whole tour takes you to the highest point on the south coast where you’ll be afforded stunning views of your path already walked and that yet to come.

After conquering the Golden Cap you head to the oldest human settlement in Dorset at over 10,000 years old, Doghouse Hill. Day 6 starts out traversing the 13 km long twitchers paradise of Fleet Lagoon, home to dunlin, oyster catchers, little egret and ringed plovers. Beyond the lagoon you round in to Weymouth, past the 500 year old Sandsfoot Castle and incredibly well preservedNothe Fort, which now serves as a museum, then on to Rodwell.
Day 7 – Rodwell to Lulworth Cove
- APPROX. 5.5hrs
- 19km/12mi
- 160m
The final day of your hike will start off walking the length of Weymouth Esplanade before passing by RSPB Lodmoor Nature Reserve, leaving the urban bustle of Weymouth behind and returning to the coastal paths. Long ascents reward you with fantastic views over Ringstead Bay. Soon after, you arrive at the ancient rock archway of Durdle Door. Finally you reach the alluring Lulworth Cove. Here we can arrange a fish BBQ on the beach with locally caught produce to celebrate conquering one of the oldest trails in the UK.
