Typical Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival

Our driver will be at your nominated collection point at the agreed time to collect you, your team and all your kit. We greet you at Exmouth we’ll cook you a hearty meal, run through the plan for your Jurassic Coast adventure and then leave you and the team to rest for the evening.

Day 2 – Exmouth to Salcombe Regis

  • APPROX. 6.5hrs
  • 23km/14mi
  • 430m

Your first day on the trail will follow Exmouth’s famous long sandy beach. Soon you reach the Geoneedle and the Jurassic Coast Path begins proper. The red sandstone on this, the oldest section of the (pre!)historic path, dates back more than 200 million years! You also pass the partially eroded Iron Age Fort at High Peak. Why not stop at Peak Hill for a scenic photoshoot? Snaffle an ice cream in one of Sidmouth’s many beachfront parlours before you marvel at the Norman Lockyear Observatory, coming to rest in Salcombe Regis.

Day 3 – Salcombe Regis to Lyme Regis

  • APPROX. 6.5hrs
  • 22km/14mi
  • 550m

A short climb up Weston Beach Cliffs takes you out of Salcombe Regis. Then you’re heading on to the beautiful Branscombe Beach, the Hooken Cliffs and following the curve of the coast around to Beer Head and beyond to the Axmouth to Lyme Regis Undercliff Nature Reserve. A major highlight of the Jurassic coast, the untamed Nature Reserve is home to orchids, ferns and fungi. It is also well worth a small detour to Lyme Regis’ Fossil Beach. There, the Ammonite Pavement astounds with an abundance of fossils littering its glistening shores. There are more ice cream opportunities in Lyme Regis before we stop for the evening.

Day 4 – Lyme Regis to Swyre

  • APPROX. 6.5hrs
  • 23km/15mi
  • 390m

After passing by charming Charmouth on day 4 you tackle the Golden Cap. The longest climb of the whole tour takes you to the highest point on the south coast where you’ll be afforded stunning views of your path already walked and that yet to come. After conquering the Golden Cap you head to the oldest human settlement in Dorset at over 10,000 years old, Doghouse Hill. After a final ascent up Thorncombe Beacon, you are lead gently down onto West Bay. You can amble along a diversion from the official Coastal Path Route and opt for a beach walk under the looming cliffs of Westbay – as featured in the TV show Broadchurch – all the way to the quaint village of Swyre.

Day 5 – Swyre to Wyke Regis

  • APPROX. 6.5hrs
  • 25km/15mi
  • 220m

After leaving Swyer you continue along the cliffs above the seemingly endless sandy Hive Beach, past the beautiful village of Abbostbury, along the 13 km long twitchers paradise of Fleet Lagoon home to dunlin, oyster catchers, little egret and ringed plovers, to your resting place in Wyke Regis.

Day 7 – Home

You did it! Congratulations on the completion of your Jurassic Coast walk! After a hearty breakfast you’ll be on your way, we’ll get packed up and follow closely behind to drop all of your kit back home again for you.

There are plenty of options if you’d like to extend your Jurassic Coast adventure with Nine Yards. We can move the start or end point, add rest days to take in some of the historic sights and get lost in villages, or add a day sea kayaking if that’s what you’re into. Get in touch and we can talk through the options.
