Typical Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival
Our driver be at your nominated collection point at the pre-agreed time to load your team and all of their kit. When you arrive at camp, just outside of Penzance, we’ll cook you a hearty meal, run through the plan for your West Kernow adventure and then leave you and the team to it for the evening.
Day 2 – Penzance to Trewellard
- Approx. 4hrs
- 49km/30mi
- 660m
The tour starts calmly with a flat 5km (3mi) warm up, which takes you past the lovely little fishing village of Mousehole, which Dylan Thomas referred to as England’s loveliest village, before your first climb. A day of coastal bridleways, traffic free track and small country lanes awaits your exploration. Famous sites such as the open air Minack Theatre, Lands End (time to stop for a picture under THAT sign?) and the Levant Mine will guide you towards Trewellard for your second luxurious camping experience.
Day 3 – Trewellard to Porthleven
- Approx. 4hrs
- 48km/30mi
- 600m
From the Neolithic era Chun Quoit to its relatively youthful neighbour Chun Castle, and on to the Bronze Age Mên-an-Toll, today is history-ageddon! We recommend taking a short break to tackle Godolphin Hill’s summit on foot for some epic views. Tonight we camp outside Porthleven for another round of delicious local fare and fanciful dreams of days gone by.
Day 4 – Portleven to St. Martin
- Approx. 4hrs
- 49km/30mi
- 630m
Your fourth day consists mainly of quiet country lanes and bridleways. Fantastic coastal views are tapered by a bout of bike pushing on some of the coastal paths – an inevitable part of a Cornish cycling trip! Your goal today is to lick the Lizard Point – the most southerly mainland point in the UK. From there you scout on to Kennack Sands Beach, through picturesque Coverack to find our camp at St. Martin down some twisty, turny lanes.
Day 5 – St Martin to Portreath
- Approx. 4hrs
- 48km/30mi
- 560 m
Our fifth day has you leave the coastal breeze behind for an inland ride full of inclines and looping lanes around the Helford Estuary. Traffic-free country lanes take you to the Stithians Reservoir and Carn Marth Mining Trail towards Redruth. Arriving at Portreath, we meet you at camp for a hot meal of your choosing.
Day 6 – Portreath
- Approx. 4hrs
- 54km/34mi
- 560m
Your final ride takes you the rest of the way around Redruth and back into mining county. There are yet more hills to tackle on more quiet country lanes. The last 20km is mainly downhill with a small climb or two, just to keep you on your toes.
Day 6 – Home
You can have a well-earned sleep in whilst we make you a breakfast as unhealthy as you would like! After breakfast your driver will pick you up for the final leg, the journey home. Once back at the drop off point we will unpack and redistribute your kit before driving off into the sunset.
If you would like to extend your West Kernow Way adventure there are great adventure parks, fantastic surf beaches and hundreds of other attractions along the route well worth adding a break day or three to check out. Of course not forgetting the clotted cream and seafood worth snaring in one of Cornwall’s villages. Get in touch to talk through options to extend your stay and personalise this basic itinerary.
